Health & Behavioral Medicine

Helping people do the healthy things they already want to do, and measuring whether it works.

Overview

Why the people lens matters here.

Health outcomes depend on behavior. Taking a medication as prescribed, returning for a follow-up visit, logging symptoms in an app, staying with an exercise routine, or a clinician finding the energy to practice well at the end of a long week: each is a behavior shaped by motivation, ability, environment and timing. Our health and behavioral medicine practice applies the science of behavior change to these moments, where good intentions so often fail to become consistent action.

Our roots are clinical. The firm grew from work in clinical health psychology and behavioral medicine, oncology support programs, neuropsychological assessment, community mental health, cardiac risk reduction research, software for people managing chronic illness, and consumer research in the fitness industry. That experience informs how we design: with respect for the patient's lived reality, attention to health literacy and access, and the rigor of research methods and measurement.

We work with health systems, digital health companies, payers, employers, health clubs and wellness brands. Using our Observe, Signal, Design, Test and Scale method, we find the behavioral signals that predict engagement and adherence, design interventions grounded in established health behavior models, test them carefully, and help teams sustain what works. Throughout, our standard is ethical persuasion: support for people's own goals, never manipulation.

Focus areas

What we focus on.

01

Behavior change grounded in evidence

We draw on established frameworks such as COM-B, the Fogg Behavior Model, self-determination theory and motivational interviewing. These models help us diagnose why a healthy behavior is not happening, whether the gap is capability, opportunity, motivation or a missing prompt, and then design interventions that address the actual barrier rather than repeating reminders that people have already learned to ignore.

02

Designing for real patients and members

People managing illness are often tired, anxious, juggling costs and decoding unfamiliar language. We design for those conditions: plain-language communication, low-effort first steps, respect for autonomy, and attention to caregivers and family. Experience design and service design make healthy behavior easier, while research with real patients and members keeps assumptions in check before they become expensive programs.

03

Caring for the people who give care

Clinicians and care teams are the delivery system for every health intervention. Burnout erodes quality, safety and retention long before it appears in a survey. We apply organizational psychology and behavioral design to workload, workflow and team climate, focusing on the systemic drivers of exhaustion rather than asking already stretched professionals to simply become more resilient.
