Social Impact & Public Good
Behavioral science that helps people get care, learn, understand evidence and live healthier lives.
Why the people lens matters here.
The public good is made of individual behaviors: a parent scheduling a child's screening, a teenager reaching a counselor before a crisis, a teacher trying a better practice, a clinician adopting new evidence, a resident trusting sound public health guidance. Mission-driven organizations ask for these behaviors every day, with fewer resources than a commercial brand and far higher stakes. This practice brings the same rigor we apply to commercial problems to the work of public health associations, medical associations, academic medicine, school districts and community mental health organizations.
We help these organizations understand the people they serve, translate research into language and tools people can use, design learning experiences grounded in how adults and young people actually learn, and measure whether programs are producing the change they promise. The work draws on health psychology, behavioral medicine, knowledge translation, logic models and evaluation design, all applied with a practical sense of what busy staff and boards can sustain.
This practice also reflects a conviction. Behavioral science should help people do what they already want to do, never manipulate them. That principle extends to how organizations adopt AI, what knowledge gets made accessible and to whom, and which cultures are represented in the training material that will shape future systems. We take those questions seriously because the communities affected by them deserve it.
What we focus on.
From evidence to everyday practice
Good research often stalls before it reaches the clinician, teacher, parent or patient who could use it. We apply knowledge translation and plain-language design to move findings into decisions, materials and routines, so the value of scientific work is measured by what changes in practice, not only by what gets published.
Programs built on a theory of change
Many programs run for years on good intentions and attendance counts. We help organizations articulate a theory of change and logic model, identify the behaviors that link activities to outcomes, and design evaluation that tells leaders and funders what is working, for whom, and why.
Ethical persuasion and responsible AI
Public education and digital tools carry real influence over people's choices. We design campaigns and products that respect autonomy, explain rather than pressure, and work for people with different literacy levels and backgrounds. We also help organizations consider whose knowledge and cultures AI systems learn from and what that means for the communities they serve.
